The Director General, Kogi State Social Democratic Party (SDP) Governorship Campaign Council, Col. Sulaiman Babanawa (rtd), has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) of sending thugs to attack the convoy of the party’s flagbearer, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka.

Recall that some thugs ambushed Ajaka’s convoy along Akpachala – Idah road in Kogi State on Wednesday.

At a press conference held at the party secretariat in Lokoja on Thursday, Babanawa called on the Inspector General of Police to probe the activities of the Head of Police Quick Response Unit (QRU), CSP Femi Ojo, for allegedly aiding the activities of political thugs in Kogi State.

Babanawa told journalists that one ASP Adamu Sani attached to QRU Kogi State Command had acted on the instructions of his boss, CSP Femi Ojo, followed some political thugs to unleash mayhem on supporters of SDP in Ajaka, Igalamela-Odolu local government area of Kogi state.

“Some armed thugs attacked the convoy of our principal, Murtala Ajaka on his way from his campaign from Ogori-Magongo, heading to his home town in Ajaka. The hoodlums shot sporadically on the convoy of Murtala Ajaka vehicles but were repelled by the entire people of the communities who saved the live of Ajaka and his entourage.

“Residents of the community were able to apprehend one suspect who happens to be a serving Police Officer, ASP Adamu Sani, attached to the Quick Response Unit (QRU) in Kogi State.

“When the people wanted to lynch him, immediately he pleaded with them insisting that he is a Police officer acting under the instructions of his boss, CSP Femi Ojo, head of QRU.

“CSP Femi Ojo has been in this command for six years. It is my advice that the Police look into the activities of quick response team under Femi Ojo.

“We perceived that the CP is a man of integrity. He should watch it that the few bad eggs like Femi Ojo will not dent his image. The Inspector General of Police should look into the activities of Quick Response team in Kogi.

“It is a known fact that some bad eggs in the command have been deployed to Kogi East, and we are aware of their evil plans. A Police Officer, ASP Sani Adamu who has confessed the dirty activities of his boss, CSP Femi Ojo, is a big threat to our democracy.

“It is totally unbelievable that security agencies that were supposed to protect the people were seen harassing and intimidating those they are supposed to serve.

“We are calling on the world to see what we are going through in Kogi State. SDP is also calling on the inspector General of Police to probe this unprofessional practice of CSP Femi Ojo for the interest of peace in Kogi State,” he said.

He said APC resorted to anti-democratic actions to intimidate supporters of the SDP due the party’s acceptance by Kogites.

“It is rather unfortunate that the APC in Kogi State mobilized some of its thugs to attack the convoy of our flagbearer.

“While it is well understood that such barbaric behaviour is typical of the APC, it must be noted that this time around, it is specifically the last kick of a dying horse.

“The APC, apparently overwhelmed by the popularity of our party, resorted to anti-democratic actions to intimidate our supporters across the state.

“It is a similar pattern to what happened during our rally in Koton-Karfe and it is important to call the attention of all stakeholders in peaceful elections in Kogi State to the dangerous actions being undertaken by the APC.”

Deputy Governorship candidate of SDP, Chief Sam Ranti  Abenemi said the campaign organization would not relent in voicing out their complain, and vowed to continue calling on the security agencies and President Bola Tinubu to rescue the people from incessant attacks by the ruling party.
