Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) has denied raising school fees, saying that what students are seeing is a uniform fee structure adopted across Kogi State’s three state-owned universities with the approval of the state government.

In a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs, Uredo Omale, the university said its management had become aware of reports, mainly on social media, alleging an increase in fees payable by students.

“The University has not increased school fees,” the statement said, adding that the new arrangement is a harmonised fee structure applied to all three state-owned institutions.

The university did not state in the release what fees were previously charged or what students now pay.

Management encouraged members of the public with doubts to compare approved fees for corresponding departments and programmes at the other two state-owned universities.

The statement also urged students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to verify information from credible and official sources before sharing it on social media. It said the university remains committed to “responsible communication” and the promotion of an informed university community.

Students and the public were advised to rely on the university’s official communication channels for accurate information.

The statement did not say when the uniform structure took effect, nor did it address whether individual students or programmes would pay more or less than before.
