- Calls on Defense Headquarters to Address Security Concerns
Kogi State chapter of the Obidient Movement, at their 53rd General Assembly, shortlisted 3 of the 18 governorship candidates ahead of the November 11 election in the state.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja at the weekend, the State Coordinator, Dr Sunday Bala Oma, disclosed that the movement shortlisted Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Hon. Leke Abejide of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Dr Sam Omale of YPP.
According to the statement, the three candidates were shortlisted due to their track records in terms of human capital and community development, as well as their contribution to governance structure in the just concluded 2023 general elections.
“While the trio scored above 70%, all other 15 candidates scored below average. However, the final selection to get a consensus amongst the 3, which the entire Obidient structure in the 239 Wards will support, shall emerge in due course,” he said.
In another development, the Congress frowned at the unwarranted attacks, killings of innocent citizens and destruction of properties by suspected thugs in the state, especially in the Kogi East flank.
They call on the Defense hierarchy to, as a matter of urgency, “intervene in what is seemingly becoming desperate measures by those whose defeat is staring them at the face, hence, will stop at nothing to truncate the peaceful and harmonious relationship that has existed across the state.”
Oma, the youngest governorship candidate in 2019, admonished the citizens not to take laws into their hands, but remain optimistic, while lasting solutions are proffered for the overall growth and development of our state and nation.
