Kogi Government Takes Proactive Steps to Prevent Farmers-Herdsmen Crisis

Kogi State Government has taken proactive measures to prevent farmers-herdsmen crisis in the State. The State Security Adviser, Commodore Jerry Omodara (rtd) said this during the meeting with leaders and members Okun Traditional Council as convened by the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Olushola Kolawole at Anglican Cathedral Multipurpose Hall, Kabba.
He said this in response to issues raised by the Traditional Rulers during the meeting.
The recently passed grazing bills in Ekiti and Benue States has made Kogi State the alternative abode for herdsmen emigrating from the respective States, while they come in to Egbe in Yagba West Local Government due to the boundary with Ekiti State, they also come in to Omala and Ankpa Local Government through Benue. There is also an ongoing related Bill before Nasarawa State Legislative Arm, a State which also has common boundary with Kogi State, Omodara said.
Omodara revealed that the State Government through his office is teaming up with the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi Command to enhance security to protect lives and properties of Kogi masses.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole in his contribution said that Kogi State House of Assembly already have before her a Bill to establish Kogi Grazing Commission.
“With this we are going to have peaceful coexistence between herdsmen and farmers thereby enhancing our Agricultural Sector,” Kolawole said.
The meeting was called to shed more light into the development strides of Governor Yahaya Bello and to intimate the Okun Traditional Rulers on his love for Okun Land.
