As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its senatorial primary election in Kogi East ahead of the 2027 elections, APC aspirant Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa has declared that the growing political conversation around the district marks the beginning of a new chapter for the region.

In a press statement released on the eve of the primary, Dr. Alfa thanked supporters, stakeholders and party members across Kogi East for believing in his aspiration and for supporting what he described as a movement centered on restoring the district’s relevance and visibility in national politics.

According to him, the aspiration was never solely about political ambition, but about creating renewed conversations around the future of Kogi East and the place of the Igala and Bassa people in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Dr. Alfa also commended the Presidency for recommending consensus arrangements in states where agreements could be reached while allowing direct primaries where necessary, describing the decision as a reflection of democratic maturity within the APC.

He further expressed confidence in the leadership of the APC in Kogi State, noting that leadership comes with difficult responsibilities and that he respects whatever decision the party eventually adopts.

The APC aspirant reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party, stressing that he remains committed to the unity and progress of the APC and would support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate after the primary process.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the contest, Dr. Alfa maintained that his political journey and commitment to Kogi East would continue beyond the primary election.

“No matter how tomorrow goes, I am not going anywhere,” he stated, adding that conversations about the future of Kogi East must continue if the district hopes to regain lost opportunities, relevance and visibility.

He observed that the 2027 senatorial race had already succeeded in bringing renewed national attention to Kogi East and its people, something he described as a major achievement in itself.

“For the first time in a very long while, the politics and future of Kogi East have again become part of the national conversation,” he said.

Dr. Alfa also called for unity among stakeholders in the district, urging residents to contribute ideas, support and sincere efforts toward building a stronger and more influential Kogi East.

In the statement, the APC aspirant took time to appreciate several prominent national figures and party leaders for their support, encouragement and goodwill throughout the course of his aspiration.

Among those he acknowledged were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, former Minister of Defence Theophilus Danjuma and Mrs. Daisy Danjuma, as well as several APC national officers and stakeholders.

He also appreciated the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress under its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, alongside the leadership of the party in Kogi State led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello.

Dr. Alfa concluded the statement with prayers for the continued growth of the APC, peace and progress in Kogi East and wisdom for political leaders guiding the affairs of the state and the country.
