The deputy governor of Kogi state Elder Simon Achuba, has bagged the 2016 international improver outstanding leadership award.
Presenting the award in Manchester, United Kingdom, the founder and chief executive officer of Miss Black Europe, the organiser of the event, Shola Brown said the deputy governor was given the award for his commitment to community development and his outstanding leadership style both in his time as the deputy speaker of the state Assembly and the present position as the deputy governor of kogi state.
Shola Brown said the award was also given to the deputy governor for serving his state in the capacity of vice chairman of Ibaji local government area, Deputy speaker of the state Assembly and now deputy governor.
He said the deputy governor was chosen among other nominees because of his consistency in politics and outstanding devotion to grassroots development.
Stating that the award was organised to galvanise public spirited individuals into dedicated services to their various communities, the founder of the non governmental organisation said only those who merit the award will given.
In a remark while receiving the award, the Deputy Governor thanked the organisation for finding him worthy of its award and promised that it would motivate him to offer more selfless service to humanity.
He said the present administration in Kogi state is being driven by the same force of service to give development the deserved attention in order to improve the standard of living of the people.
The deputy governor who was represented at the occasion by his wife, Mrs Eunice Achuba commended Miss Black Europe organisation for taking the initiative to organise the socio-economic – cultural activity and use it as a platform for empowering talented young ladies across the black world.
He said it was worthy of emulation that the NGO has as its main objective of helping young ladies to get the basics of success in life and giving back to the community by helping the less privileged.
According to the deputy governor, such initiative has its complements in Kogi state government’s efforts to ameliorate the suffering of the people with particular emphasis on women empowerment and Girl Child Education.
He said already, a blueprint has been drawn encapsulating scientific and practical steps geared towards addressing youth and women empowerment in the state.
The deputy governor further urged Miss Black Europe and similar organisations to expand their activities towards putting their success strategies at the disposal of the young graduates and women to enable them access self-development employments which some governments lack the capacity to provide for them.
He said that there are investment opportunities in solid minerals, trade, commerce, industries and agriculture in Kogi state which foreign investors can take advantage of to create wealth and jobs for the school graduates, maintaining that the state is one the most peaceful in the country and infrastructure conduces to any investment engagement with full guarantee for good returns.
Further stating that the award is an opportunity for the world to avail itself of the knowledge of investment potentialities in Kogi state, the Deputy Governor said the state government was prepared to offer attractive incentives to any organisation or individual that is ready to invest in any part of the state.
