The new Commissioner of police for Kogi State, Mr Lawal Tanko has pledged to put more patrol vehicles on Lokoja-Abuja highway so as to curtail the menace of armed robbers on the road.
Tanko who stated this in Lokoja on Tuesday while resuming in his new position said that more officers and men will also be deployed to the road to make it safe for motorists on 24-hour basis.
From the hand over notes received from his predecessor, Tanko said that he discovered that the command had enough weapons and men to secure the Lokoja-Abuja highway, promising to make judicious use of the available resources.
He identified armed robbery as the major security challenge facing the state, stating that his intention was to make police presence visible in all parts of the state so as to stem the tide.
Tanko said that Police Area commanders in the state had been directed to ensure effective patrol of their areas, saying that the move was to bring police nearer to the people.
He warned officers and men against acts of indiscipline, corruption, abuse of human rights, illegal road block, saying that any of them found wanting will be summarily dismissed.

Tanko also warned the people of the state against offering bribe to his men, saying what the police of today required from them were information and useful suggestions that may assist the police in tackling security problems facing the country.
The new police Commissioner also warned police formations in the state against detaining suspects longer than necessary, saying that he would soon embark on tour of all the formations to explain the new thinking.
