The Commissioner for Environment of Kogi State, Mrs. Rosemary Osikoya, on Monday 4th July, 2016, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General/CEO, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

She stated that the purpose of her visit was to hold informal discussions with the Agency on areas of possible support and collaboration. Some of the issues she highlighted included the many environmental challenges besetting Kogi State. She also wanted to discuss NESREA’s plans to establish a Field Office.

On his part, Dr Lawrence Anukam, the DG/CEO, NESREA, congratulated the newly appointed Commissioner and wished her success on her current assignment. He said that there are areas for possible collaboration between NESREA and the Kogi State Government such as tackling land degradation which is a serious issue in the State and NESREA would definitely be of help in that regard. He also stated that the State stood to enjoy numerous benefits from the establishment of the NESREA Field office, including employment opportunities for its citizens and that the State Ministry of Environment should be at liberty to establish mechanisms that would enable it to carry out its activities as long as they comply with extant environmental laws such as the EIA Act of 1992.
