Kogi Commission of Inquiry: Ex-Gov Ibrahim Idris, Wada Drags Gov Bello to Court

Two former Governors of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and Captain Idris Wada have approached Kogi State High Court sitting in Lokoja challenging the powers of Governor Yahaya Bello to constitute a judicial commission of inquiry.

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, recently inaugurated an 8-man Commission of Inquiry to probe the two administrations before him. The Commission of Inquiry is headed by a retired Justice from Kano State, Justice Wada Umar Rano. The commission has the mandate to look into the activities of past administration and expose any misdemeanor.

Alhaji Ibrahim Idris filed suit No. HCL/85/2016 at Kogi State High Court on 10th November, 2016 challenging the powers of Governor Bello to constitute the Judicial Commission of Inquiry with respect to Law of Northern Nigeria 1963 citing that the law has not been brought into conformity with 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Idris was physically present at Kogi State High Court yesterday to depose to the affidavit in support of his originating motion.

Also, Capt. Idris Wada, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, filed a similar suit yesterday.

Governor Yahaya Bello and the Attorney General of the state were duly served today and the matters will be heard on Monday,  14th November,  2016 at Court 4, Kogi State High Court, Lokoja.
