Kogi Bye-Election: PDP Aspirant Accuses Gov. Bello of Using Security Personnel to Disrupt Poll

The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Lokoja/Kogi Bye-Election, Engineer Bashir Abubakar Gegu, has accused Edward Onoja, Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello of masterminding the sporadic shooting, intimidation and harassment of electorate, thereby disrupting voting at some polling units across two local government areas (LGAs).

The PDP candidate stated this in Gegu when he cast his vote saying government officials using security personnel to disrupt election.

Bashir said reports reaching him accused the state government of alleged intimidation, harassment of his supporters, noted that the government officials were brazenly holding guns and shooting at polling units.

The candidate lamented the militarization of the bye-election pointing out that a renowned thug from Okene, was in Tawari using armed militia to scare away the electorate from voting.

However, the situation got worse at Osuku Primary School Polling Unit the country home of Barrister Mohammed Tanko Musa Administrator of Kogi/Kotonkarfe LGA barred electorate from exercise their franchise.

According to the Presiding Officer, Joseph Julius, they were forced to accredit voters and asked them to go and leave the thump-printing of ballot papers for him.

According to some voters, the Administrator directed for accreditation, after which he negotiated with the youth corpers, to allowing him thumb-print for the APC.

Similarly, a one-time Secretary to Government of Kogi state, Alh Musa Ahmadu, has described the Kogi scenario as one of its kind, with government officials carrying and displaying arms in the ongoing Lokoja Kogi Federal Constituency Bye-Election.

The former scribe accused the State Governor, his Chief of Staff and other government functionaries of openly carrying arms against the tenets of the electoral law.

Alh Musa called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the security agencies to order.
