Kogi State Bureau of Lands Development has commenced a state-wide property enumeration exercise.
Director General of the Bureau, Hon Abdulmalik Teina made this known in Lokoja on Monday.
Represented by Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, Estate Surveyor and Valuer Baiyegusi Samuel Taiwo, the Director General said the enumeration exercise will enable individuals, organizations, communities and foreign investors identify and take ownership of their properties under a rancour-free condition.
According to him, the property enumeration is geared towards getting accurate database that will enable government plan for the socio-economics and security development of the state.
Teina explained that the present administration, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has demonstrated genuine commitment to make the entire state a centre of economics, commercial hub and investment haven, hence the property enumeration exercise to develop a data bank for accurate information about the existing lands and other properties in the state.
He advised the citizens to join hands and cooperate with the officers by providing information of their properties, saying that the exercise is not meant to witch hunt any individual but to facilitate the planning of the state.
He equally asked the residents not to pay money to the enumerators that are deployed on the fields for the exercise, insisting that the exercise is free of charge
the Director General highlighted some other benefits which included, ease of business transaction, security services, creation of wealth, attract foreign and local investors, as well as reduce land disputes between individuals .
“When this is actualized, it will make Kogi state a destination of local, national and international earnings. Lands dispute between individuals, community to community, organization to organization, will be brought under with the new initiative,” Teina stated.
He explained that the new policy, which is the brain child of Governor Ododo, will fast-track the socio-economic growth and development of the state where property owners use the application of Goggle App to access their property from outside the state, while citizens can approach financial institutions to obtain facilities with genuine property documents.
