Kogi-born Gbenga Arokoyo is set to begin his European career at Swedish Club, Mjallby AIF.

The Kabba-born central defender is a product of Kwara Football Academy.

The officials of the Swedish team spent time in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital to see the defender, who is in his second season on loan at Premier League side, Kwara United.

The central defender has since wormed his way into the heart of Super Eagles supremo, Stephen Keshi, and was on the bench when the Eagles played a barren draw with Angola on the eve of the Afcon.

Administrator of the KFA, Kumbi Titiloye, confirmed the development.

“We expect him to travel soon since the club is satisfied with his performance. Arokoyo is one of the best players the Academy has produced,” he said

Arokoyo made an impressive debut in the NPL last term and attracted the interests of several teams in Europe and Africa.

He was a regular as Nigeria’s Under20 team won the Africa Youth Championship in South Africa, but missed the World Cup party, in Colombia.

Mjallby is based in Hällevik.
