Kogi Assembly Resumes

The Kogi State House of Assembly resumed sitting today Wednesday, 24th May, 2017 even though it had, on the 11th of May, adjourned plenary session to reconvene on the 30th of May.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, on resumption explained that the need for sufficient update of legislative knowledge and skills in achieving accelerated course of democracy in strengthening peace, good governance and better representation necessitated the recess which is now suspended.
According to him, the just concluded retreat  in Accra, Ghana with the theme: “Transformational leadership and good governance ” was to equip members with legislative skills and knowledge to boost development and good governance”. He expressed satisfaction on the content and delivery of the training/ workshop by the resource persons saying that “the programme has richly equipped each member effectively with the necessary information needed for a better legislative delivery and quality leadership”. He charge the members to impact positively on their Constituencies particularly the State to portray their modified legislative experience even as the 6th Assembly has just two weeks to the end of the legislative Session.
The Speaker congratulated the former Deputy Speaker and Member representing Omala State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Akuh, on the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degree of Public Policy and Administration on him in far away Accra, Ghana.
Earlier at the commencement of Plenary, the Speaker read a letter from the Governor, His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello, informing the House of his intention to travel abroad and be back on or before the 29th of May.
Legislative training/workshops are mandatory requirements for Parliamentarians who are expected to attend local and international trainings annually to further equip them in the course of performing their constitutional responsibilities. This particular trip was provided for and approved in the 2016 budget and only attended  the local training in Lagos but deferred the International workshop to last week and chose a West African Country instead to minimize cost.
The House has adjourned to reconvene on Thursday, 25th May, 2017.
