MOTION CALLING ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO UPGRADE ADOGO COTTAGE HOSPITAL TO A GENERAL HOSPITAL
Whereas, Adogo Cottage Hospital is the only Health Institution that provides Health Services to Adogo, Ebiya, Eganyi, unosi and other adjourning villages of Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
Whereas, the Hospital lack essential medical facilities and personnel to provide basic health services to the people as it appears virtually abandoned by the previous Administrations.
Whereas, the Hospital which is strategically located to serve the Local Government Headquarters and the surrounding villages today exists more or less in name. it is not serving the interest of the people as minor health challenges could not be handled by the Hospital for lack of medical personnel to administer the required services.
Most often patients do travel outside the Local Government Headquarters for medical attention.
Whereas, this development brings about a lot of untold hardship on the people, some of whom ended up losing their lives in the process of travelling long distance for medical treatments. Some people who could not even afford the cost of seeking medical attention outside their locality end up remaining with their health problems or go for some unreliable traditional medical alternatives.
Whereas, the existing Cottage Hospital in Adogo, the Local Government Headquarters could suffice for the provision of adequate medical services to the people, if only it can be upgraded to a full fledge General Hospital with the provision of all necessary medical personnel and facilities.
Therefore, in the interest of the good people of Ajaokuta Local Government Area, there is an urgent need for the provision of medical services through a functional General Hospital to ease the Health problems and challenges of the people as it is currently witness today.
Mr. Speaker, my Distinguished Colleagues, it is on this note that I crave your indulgence to resolve as follows:
(i) That the State Government do kindly upgrade the Cottage Hospital in Adogo to a General Hospital to provide all the necessary basic medical services to the area and its surrounding villages.
(ii) That in the interim, more medical officers should be posted to the existing Cottage Hospital to improve the medical services of the Hospital pending its upgrade.
