The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using thugs to intimidate its members. It alleged that the thugs were used as security personnel to harass  its members as supporters.

Addressing a press conference in Lokoja, at the weekend, Kogi State coordinator of the General Muhammadu Buhari campaign organization, Barrister James Ocholi, said hoodlums had been  attacking members of the APC in Anyigba and Dekina.

“The peace we desire to enable people vote freely is being threatened and the greatest challenge we have now is that those who ought to make arrests and keep these boys out of the street to prevent them from unleashing mayhem have not risen to the occasion,” he said.

He alleged that they had information that the attackers were recruited by some people in government and that they were also given official vehicles without number plates.

Ocholi said:  “Recently, some hoodlums launched attacks on members of the party and destroyed many of our offices but none of them was arrested. If people who are not trained policemen or soldiers are given such cover, it will be difficult for us to have peaceful elections.”

Responding, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Jacob Edi, denied the allegation, saying they are unfounded.

Edi urged Ocholi to “deal with the factionalization of his party (APC) before dragging the PDP into nonexistent issues.”
