Ahead of the 2019 general elections in the country, the plans of certain candidate to import thugs and hoodlums, especially for the Kogi State House of Assembly election to disrupt the election process in Kabba/Bunu just to score cheap political points has been uncovered.
According to impeccable sources, the candidate who claimed to be popular, is already considering the option of seeking for help from the neighbouring states of Benue and Edo to cause mayhem during the state assembly elections.
The source further confirmed that one of them who already have records of violence during elections is leaving no stone unturned to resort to violence during the 2019 process.
According to our reporter who filed in this report, some of the people who spoke to him on condition of anonymity confirmed that the election may not be devoid of violence stressing that prominent among those with the devious plan is a candidate who contested sometime ago known to have affiliations with the two neighbouring states.
They advised politicians especially those contesting in the constituency to make their campaigns issue based and refrain from name calling that may spark violence in the area. They pointed out that any candidate that is popular don’t need the help of thugs and hoodlums during elections.
They appealed to all stakeholders to play the game by its rules while calling on the good people of Kabba/Bunu to be vigilant and report all strange faces or movements around their areas to the security agencies.
It will be recalled that the newly crowned Obaro of Kabba, His Royal Majesty, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, Obaro Otitoleke Oweyomade I, has continued to preach peace among various segment of the community; politicians inclusive.
According to him, it is good for all and sundry to live in peace with one another as that is the only way to guarantee development in the area.
He urged politicians to shun violence during elections, noting that under his watch, any activity that will cause a breach of peace will not be tolerated especially thuggery during the elections.
He appealed to parents to caution their wards to behave themselves before, during and after elections, noting that Okunland is known to be abode of virtuous, reasonable, responsible and peaceful people stressing that bad conducts are alien to the area.
