INEC Ready to Conduct Kogi Senatorial Rerun Election

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has restated its commitment for peaceful conduct of two senatorial seats and five House of Assembly rerun elections which is scheduled to take place on 20th February, 2016 in Kogi State.

 

 

 

 

The State Resident Electoral Commissioners, REC, Alhaji Halilu Pai disclosed this while speaking during the stakeholders meeting held in Lokoja in preparation for the elections.

 

 

 

Pai explained the rerun election order was not as a result of violence, noting it was as a result of pre- election matters which arose at tribunal immediately after election.

 

 

 

He pointed out that based on the eight orders from the Court, it’s incumbent on INEC to conduct a rerun election in the affected areas saying the election would be conducted in two senatorial districts, Kogi Central and Kogi East senatorial districts.

 

 

The REC added that in preparation for the election, a total of 90, 806 ad-hoc staff would be recruited for the conduct of the two senatorial seats and five House of Assembly seats election.

 

 

 

Pai stated that the rerun election will take place in Kogi Central senatorial district with only five political parties, LP, MPPP, PDP, SPD participating excluding APC While in Kogi East senatorial district APC is excluded while ACPN, KOWA, LP, MPPP, PDP and UPP are to participate.
