The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kogi State, on Wednesday said about 282, 747 permanent voter cards were not collected from the commission by their owners.

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof James Apam, said this during his maiden meeting the leadership of the various political parties in the state.

The REC expressed concern over the high number of unclaimed PVC that were in the custody of the commission.

According to him, no fewer than 61, 075 prospective voters had been registered during the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The breakdown of the registrants includes 21,488 males and 49,627 females, adding that 2,189 cases of transfer of voters cards were treated.

Apam added that at least 8,176 PVCs were distributed during the exercise and 3, 260 damaged/defaced cards replaced.

He however solicited the support of politicians to make the state have less violent elections in 2019, urging the politicians to help the commission in the identified flash points in the state.

The REC noted that Nigeria’s problem was not that of human and material resources at the country has them in abundance, but leadership has always been the bane of the country.

He however expressed optimism that the continuous efforts of the commission would ensure that voters are no more cheated in the country.
