The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the names of nine candidates to be fielded by political parties for the August 11 by-election for Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency.
The candidates are the immediate past speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Ahmed Imam (SDP), Haruna Isah (APC), Abubakar Bashir Mohammed (PDP), Muhammad Mabo Kassim (ADC), Salisu Y. Bala (Accord), Menyaga Abubakar Achimugu (DA), Ibrahim Mohammed Ladan (LP) and Godwin Wambebe Ailuka (NCP).
The Head of Voters Education and Publicity (VEP) at INEC in Kogi State, Alhaji Biambo Bagudu, told newsmen yesterday that non-sensitive materials for the election had been received while training was on for ad hoc staff that would take part in the conduct of the election.
He said the commission was making all necessary preparations in collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and peaceful by-election.
INEC had fixed August 11 for a by-election to fill the vacancy created at the House of Representatives, following the death of Buba Jibril who died in March this year.
