Ijumu: Taufiq Isa Moves to Resolve Obadofin Title Dispute in Iyamoye

The Administrator of Ijumu local government council, Dr. Taufiq Isa, has announced that the recent appointment of a new Obadofin by the Obaro of Iyamoye was done in error and this has invalidates the appointment.
Dr. Taufiq, who is the chairman of Kogi State chapter of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), made the announcement during an emergency meeting at the Ijumu local government legislative council to put to final rest the issues generated by the appointment of Obadofin Iyamoye.
He stated that six weeks ago, a 6-member peace committee was set up headed by the Oba of Ogale and thereafter a nine member review committee headed by Oba of Egbeda-Egga on the Obadofin stool. Both committees came up with same resolution to suspend the appointment.
“I must not fail in my responsibility to call a spade a spade. The Obadofin title is hereby suspended and hanged until further notice when the government is fully sure that the atmosphere is clear and appropriate for the appointment of the right person from the right quarter into the stool of a new Obadofin.
“To all Ijumu communities, henceforth, the Olujumu of Ijumu and Ijumu traditional council of chiefs must be informed about the appointment of any high chiefs and the process must be properly documented and followed before appointment.
At the emergency meeting, the Olujumu of Ijumu land, HRM Oba Segun Williams Ayeni appealed for calm.
He opined that minor misunderstanding is inevitable in their midst but ability to resolve it make them united. He urged all parties to accept the outcome of the report as it is devoid of prejudice.
The Administrator used the opportunity to intimate the traditional rulers that any moment from now the new date for the presentation of staff and coronation of Olujumu will be announced by the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The meeting had in attendance the Director of local government, Bro. O. J. Dare; Director of Security, Mr Durotiwon Pedro; government appointees, traditional rulers, Dr. A. A Imam, Dr Remi Medupin, Chief Imam Iyamoye, Alfa Keunifari; Revr. Canon Alonge, Chairman Ijumu Arin Development Association, Dr. I. B Aminu, market women leaders, representatives of D.P.O and DSS.
