It is one thing for a nation to have youths and yet another for the youths to recognize their obligations to their father land.

This perhaps, explains the position of youths from Kogi Eastern Senatorial District who converged recently on Anyigba, the commercial nerve centre of Igala land to brainstorm on the way out of the current socio-political problems in the land.

The gathering was equally meant to send a wake-up call to indigenes of Igala land and those in the Diaspora to salvage the land from an imminent economic quagmire.

Tagged Igala Youth Assembly, the forum was convened at the instance of the recent political upheavals in the state reviewing the socio-political situation of Igala kingdom, identifying her problems as well as proffering solutions.

The maiden plenary session of the youth assembly which was held at Kogi State University Anyigba, featured paper presentations and promotion of ideas on the inherent lack of political mentorship, self-centeredness and individualistic tendencies prevalent among the Igala folk by participants who freely aired their views.

In the view of the convener of the summit, Mr. Joel Odaudu, there would be no better time to organize such an all-important meeting than now, just as he stressed the urgent need for Igala youths to take bold step towards delivering the future of the land from total collapse.

According to him, if the youths failed to assume their rightful position now, the land stands to miss out in the nearest future.

The spontaneous response to the call for the gathering is indicative of the group’s readiness to rail off the future of the land from being destroyed by inherent nonchalance of past and contemporary leaders and representatives of the people.

One of the participants and major contributors at the forum, Secretary Board of Trustee’ Who is Who’ in Igala Land, Chief Hilary Amodu, called for the liberalisation of the assembly to allow for more participation of well-meaning sons and daughters of the land. He added that many were still sceptical on the position of the convener.

He equally called on the youths to discard the idea of clinging to politicians for mere stipends which he noted called hardly address matters of the moment, urging them to rather source out means of achieving academic qualifications to secure their future.
