Matter of Urgent Public Importance Calling on the State Government to Provide Relief Materials to Victims Whose Plantations and Farmlands Were Destroyed by Fire at Iffe-Ijumu.

The Right Honourable Speaker,  Distinguished Colleagues.

I wish to humbly draw the attention of this Honourable House to the fire disaster that ravaged and completely destroyed the farmlands and crops of the people of Oye, Omo Ejugbahe and Okokotua Clans of Otun Quarters in Iffe-Ijumu, one of the communities in my constituency.

Mr. Speaker, whereas the people of the affected areas by the inferno are predominantly farmers whose major livelihood is based on the proceeds from their crops, plantations and palm trees which are now completely destroyed by the fire incident that lasted for a whole day.

It should be pointed out that since the time of this ugly incident the affected farmers had been exposed to serious financial challenges and can no longer feed their families and carry out other obligations expected of them.

Prayer

In view of the untold hardship and financial challenge currently under-going by these innocent farmers as a result of the inferno,  I humbly call on this house to resolve that the the Kogi State Government should direct the State Emergency Management Board to provide financial assistance and other relieve materials to the affected farmers.

Thank you all.
Dated today the  30th day of March 2017.

Signed:

Hon. Victor Adewale Omofaiye (VAO)

Member Representing Ijumu Constituency,
