As the race towards who becomes the governor of Kogi state begins in ernest, an apirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Pharmacist Aliyu Zakari-Jiya has said as part of his immediate programme of development in Kogi, he would diversify the economy of the state focusing on the abundant resources that abound in all parts of the state.

According to him, Kogi state is among the few lucky states in Nigeria with resources that can transform the economy of the state unfortunately previous administrations blinded their eyes to such opportunities at the expense of playing cheap politics.

He said the reason the state is suddenly becoming a haven for kidnappers and other forms of social behaviour is because the youths who constitute the bulk of the working class have been neglected over the years. He said a situation whereby young men and women, who graduated from the university and other higher institutions after so many years cannot find anything to do meaningfully, is dangerous for peace. It is for this reason that he said the electorates shoul look at the pedigrees of all the contestants vying to occupy Lugard House in Lokoja to be careful about the one they will elect as their governor.

Pharm Jiya said the fertile land, fruit trees, minerals and other resources that abound in the state are enough to run the state independent of any federal allocation.

“We need to diversify the economy of our state because we are tired of the serial failures associated with previous administrations. It is for this reason Kogi state that has the highest human resources in the entire northern Nigeria, especially from the old Kabba province, is today backward because past administrations had no plan for succession. They merely played politics at the expense of the future of the youths”, he said.

At the moment, he said, the Ajaokuta Steel Industry which is supposed to be the life wire of all industries is dormant but expressed hope that President Muhammadu Buhari would fix it before the end of his tenure bearing in mind the enormous benefits that the government would derrive from it.
Pharm Jiya paid tribute to past leaders of the state who had ruled the state before and left enduring legacies that no one can beat till today. In particular, he singled out Prince Abubakar Audu, a former governor of the state whose legacies are still the best in the state till today despite having had two administrations.

He, however, said that the time has come for the younger generation to continue from where the elder statesman stopped so that there would be succession because in his words, “Any success without succession amounts to failure”.

He advised Nigerians to give President Buhari time to address the problems of the country in line with his promises saying that the president is someone who is not flippant with his words, more so as he has his good name to protect.
