The Minority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Honourable Afolabi Yori Solomon has flayed the state government for not addressing the demands made by primary and junior secondary school teachers in the state.

Hon Yori, while speaking with newsmen, said the government has no excuse for owing teachers.

The Minority Leader, who noted that the teachers have been on strike for the past three weeks, wondered why the government is yet to address the issue.

“Primary education is the foundation, and keeping pupils at home can lead them into crimes. The teachers are asking for salary relativity and leave allowances which are their entitlement. If the government is refusing to pay relativity by this time when will it implement the minimum wage for them. A responsible government would not toy with the primary education of her citizens because it is the foundation”, he said.

He said the House of Assembly has directed that the teachers be paid their entitlement because other civil servants in the state have been paid theirs.
