Perhaps as a result of previous mistakes that has developed direly hunting consequences, majority of kogites and most particularly, the ones who give keen attention to the politics of the state are very displeased with the present Kogi state house of assembly and by implication, most often find it needless to either appreciate or talk about the individual effort of the representatives therein.

However, like the story of the good Samaritan, all cannot be the same and therefore, the need to talk about Hon Alfa Mommoh Rabiu’s stewardship as member representing the good people of Ankpa 2 constituency. In sociological politics, “no matter how hard or failing a leader is, the supporters will always find ways of extolling him and the opposition shall never see any good or come to terms with reality except that they will make judgements only by what is preoccupied on their minds.”

Yet, truth stands clear from falsehood and therefore, the need to enlighten a larger audience about the efforts of the young but very ebullient honorable who is breaking uncommon grounds in uncommon ways. Within the last two years(2015-2017), Hon Alfa Mommoh Rabiu have strived seriously with both cash, resources, might, influence and time to give the best in him to the good people of Ojoku and Enjema districts that make up Ankpa 2 constituency. In doing this, he has not just been accountable to the people but brought impacts to their door steps through his constituency development projects, agitations, support packages, humane disposition and opened doors.

In terms of infrastructure, he ensured an evenly spread project across the eight wards of Ankpa 2 constituency based on their individual needs as requested during a widely publicised town hall meeting he conveyed to hear opinions about his stewardship, brainstorm ways forward as well as account his efforts at justifying the mandate reposed on him and the projects were agreed and already executed as follows;

-Enjema Ward 1: Construction of bore hole at Enjema

-Enjema Ward 2: Building of Open market shops at Ofugo

-Enjema Ward 3: Renovation of class room blocks at Inye

-Enjema Ward 4: Renovation of primary school blocks at LGEA Anyitata. And for Ojoku wards;

-Ojoku Ward 1: Building of Open Market shop at central market Ojoku agbodo

-Ojoku Ward 2: Fencing and erosion control at Okaba Primary school

-Ojoku Ward 3: Building of Open market shops at Inyologu and

-Ojoku Ward 4: Building of open market shops at Ukwo doko market.

In addition to these constituency projects, Hon Rabiu during his one year anniversary empowered five person per ward across the eight wards of Ankpa 2 with a start up capital fifty thousand naira each(summing at two million naira) plus distribution of artisan machines and equipments to suitable professionals. He also regularly visits the constituency on weekly basis during which he extends his kind hands of magnanimity to those in need.

It will be well observed that vibrancy on the floor of the house is also a focal point in the assessment of a legislator and Hon Rabiu is not only above board in this regard but has to his credit several motions and bills which has meaningfully impacted on the life of his constituents. While they are too numerous to mention, it is important to note that aside leading an SDG team for on the spot assessment of some communities ravaged by erosion in the area, Hon Rabiu Alfa Co sponsored the motion that drew governments attention to the ongoing construction of Emere-Odagba-Enabo-Ofugo-Abejukolo road.

Hon Rabiu, a leader that loves making leaders has influenced the appointment of several son’s and daughters of Ankpa origin into civil service at both the state and national level even as he made education topmost priority via the regular offsetting of external examination fee for randomly selected students in his constituency. Stomach infrastructure which is the baseline of a healthy life is not left out of his stewardship. Moreover, it had become routinely for him to distribute food stuff and other items during festivities and seasons.

How well he has done with his mandate is a matter that shall be decided only by the constituents at the right time but public enlightenment is part of the accountability traits of Hon Alfa Mommoh Rabiu and I subject these gigantic strides to public scrutiny and confirmations. It was a great philosopher with the name – ‘John Locke’ that once said “New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reason but because they are not common.” Hence, Hon Alfa Mommoh Rabiu having found himself in an uncommon dispensation cannot do away with opposition but I hope this piece is educative enough.
