The embattled speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Bello has cried out to the presidency, alleging threats to life following the withdrawal of his personal security by police authorities.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Mr. Bello said the withdrawal of his security personnel was part of a plot by the executive to cause more unrest in the state.

The embattled politician asked President Jonathan to address the controversy as a matter of national importance.

He further called the State’s Commissioner of Police and the executive arm to return his security details as he vowed to exploit all legal options available to resolve the controversy.

Responding to allegations of nonchalance to security matters in the state, Mr Bello accused some members of the executive of compromising with the police authorities to heat up the state legislature.

Meanwhile, the executive arm of government in the state has washed its hand of the impeachment saga, saying it has nothing to do with the removal of the former Speaker.

Speaking to Channels Television in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, the Special Adviser to the governor on media matters, Mr. Jacob Edi, said the impeachment was carried out by 17 members of the state assembly who accused the speaker of neglecting his constitutional duties.
