After series of political tussles that usually characterize choice of candidates in a typical democratic system, Dr Yakubu Oseni who emerged victorious in the February 16th Senatorial election would be inaugurated on 11th June, 2019 as the 6th Senator from Kogi Central since 1999 that the country returned to democracy.

This follows the declaration by President Muhammadu Buhari who by virtue of section 64(3) empowered  the President to make proclamation for holding of the first session of the National Assembly after he is being sworn in.

It would be recalled that in 1999 when the country returned to democratic rule, Late Sen. Ahmed Tijani Ahmed was elected (1999-2003) as the representative of the Kogi Central to the Red Chamber. After the tenure of Late A.T. Ahmed, Senator Mohammed Ohiare took over the mantle from 2003-2007 and became the first Senator that vigorously spoke against the aborted third term agenda of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Consequentially, late Senator Salihu Otaru Ohize also reigned from 2007 to 2011. Senator Nurudeen Abatemi Usman was in 2011 elected to legislate on behalf of Kogi Central till 2015 when Senator Ahmed Salawu Ogembe took the baton from him.

While addressing newsmen in his Abuja residence in preparation to his epoch-making inauguration on 11th June, 2019, Dr Yakubu Oseni assured his constituents that the much-needed democratic dividends would not elude them.

He further noted that since governance is a continuum, he would utilise the first year to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor till next year when he would be taking part in budget plan and implementation.

Dr Oseni who reiterated being a grassroot politician emphasized that on no account will he be detached from the people who overwhelmingly gave him the mandate to represent them at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

“I am ever grateful to our elders, women and youths, groups, students and well wishers who God has used to bring the quest to change the narratives of our constituency for better.

“Our work plan and strategies to lift our communities from its present state has been perfected and your constructive contributions would be entertained. Support and pray along with us at both state and Federal legislative levels as we embark on yet another phase of our political journey.

The visibly elated soon- to-be-inaugurated Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria called on all well meaning people of Kogi Central to as a matter of patriotism, shun pettiness which is capable of dragging the progress of the constituency, adding that election has been won and lost.

In the spirit of transparency, fair hearing and accountability, Dr Oseni urged his constituents to reach him through this email: senatoryakubu.oseni.nass@gmail.com to table their complaints, suggestions and commendations.

Subsequently, Dr Oseni who appreciate individuals, organizations and various union leaders who considered him worthy of honour, urged them to put on hold all forms of awards till he’s two years in office when such award could be given in respect of his performance in the Red Chamber.
