In a bid to curtail the exploitation by petroleum marketers in Kogi State, the State House of Assembly has summoned the State Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to appear before the house to throw light on their performance in the state.

This resolution came today, following a motion of public importance calling on the DPR to be up to their responsibility in the state.

Moving the motion, the Member representing Ajaokuta Constituency, Hon Bello Hassan Abdullahi pointed that the role of DPR is felt more during fuel scarcity when petroleum marketers and fuel distributors often engage in shoddy deal of hoarding and diverting fuel to an unregulated distributor.

He observed that DPR has been operating well in most state capitals. where the records show some measures of free flow of vehicles at petrol stations with controlled prices.

Pointing that the role of DPR is not felt at all in Kogi state, Abdullahi expressed his disappointment that most markerters in the state operate as if there is no regulatory agency.

Seconding the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Sanni Kekere while recalling his experience on the recent fuel hike, intimated members that he bought a litre of fuel for N200 which he believed has continued effects on the common man on the street.

The House has also directed the State Government to set up a task force to monitor the distribution and sale of petroleum product in the state.

However, the sitting was adjourned its to 10th of May where the  House would meet with the DPR.
