Member representing Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Ikani Okolo has commiserated with victims of herdsmen attacks in Oganenigu, pledging to take steps to avert re-occurrence.
In a condolence message signed by Ikani Okolo, the lawmaker decried the unprovoked attacks on his constituents by the dread killer herdsmen.
“It is utterly shocking to see our people being mauled or butchered in cold blood by these unscrupulous herders in Oganenigu again. These unbridled attacks and killings of innocent people are inhuman, heinous and condemnable.
“I have been following the ugly trends of these attacks and the revelations are very startling with particular emphasis on the number of deaths recorded in this dastardly act by the herdsmen. My heart sincerely goes out to the people of Oganenigu and Ojuwo-Omayeji for their losses.
“It is worthy of note that I made serious efforts to persuade the Rt. Hon. Speaker to grant me the opportunity to bring the matter to the front burner today as a matter of urgent National Importance but I could not go through because two members had secured that privilege earlier but the Speaker graciously approve me for next week. This is a situation we can not be silent about hence I urge the people of Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency and particularly, Oganenigu community to be rest assured of my determination to ensure that Nigerians hear about what the armless and defenseless people of these communities have been experiencing in the hands of these wicked herdsmen and to also make sure that proactive measures are rolled out to avert a reoccurrence of these incidents,” he said.
