Pro-democracy groups in Kogi State has heaped praises on Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Kolawole Mathew for returning the dignity of the legislative arm of government in the state.

The groups, led by Comrade Adaviruku Isah of Kogi Youth Alliance; Solomon Agada of Movement for Peace and Equitable Governance in Nigeria; Abaka Ojochugwu of Think Kogi First and Dr. Adetokunbo Adeojo of Civil Society Collation for Democracy, noted that the Speaker has enjoyed the support of all members since he assumed office.
They said the Speaker’s renewed efforts towards a robust legislature-executive relations has helped the government meets the yearnings and aspirations of Kogi people.
The groups, at a press briefing in Lokoja, said they decided to come out openly to address the press to pass a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Kogi State House of Assembly under the leadership of Mathew Kolawole who they described as not only a stabilizer but a democrat whose commitment to the tenets of democracy is unparalleled.
The leaders of the groups took turns to condemn the recent online publication of one Austin Okai who they described as a pseudo personage. They alleged that Austin Okai is an enemy of peoples’ progress and his burning taste for blackmail and falsehood is second to none. They warned Okai that his cup is full saying one person cannot continue to cause mutual suspicion and unrest in Kogi state.
“In recent times, his activities and utterances have been targeted at division and inciting public disturbance in Kogi State. We are not surprised at his publication insinuating a divide or feud in the Kogi State House of Assembly or between the House and the Executive arm”, the leaders said.
In their separate remarks, they assured the public that there is nothing close to division or leadership crisis in the House and that the working relationship of the House led Kolawole is cordial. They called on mischief makers like Austin Okai to concentrate on joining hands with the Assembly in the task of redeveloping Kogi State instead of distracting the House and causing disaffection among its leadership, lawmakers and the executive arm led by Governor Yahaya Bello.
The groups said they have moral duty to inform Kogi citizens so that the lies of Austin Okai and his failed sponsors, who are responsible for the backwardness of the state and are presently desperate to cause confusion in the determination of the present change government to take the state to its rightful position amongst the comity of states.
“At no time was there a letter or verbal request for a loan of 10 billion Naira sent to the House of Assembly from the Executive. The only request given approval is for the SUBEB/UBEB state counterpart fund of N1.9Billion. This is to enable the State access its accumulated intervention fund from the Universal Basic Education Board headquarters to enable it reposition the primary and basic education sector of the state through provision of good learning environment, training and retraining of teachers and provision of more teaching and learning aids.
“The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole was not at any time in the UK as alleged. He was in the USA as part of the United Nation Assembly General Assembly session. This is no longer news as it has been reported on a lot of platform. Why the falsehood?
“Kogi people are determined to continue to support the present change government, and we assure the people that false publication like that of Austin Okai cannot distract the Assembly, State Government or the citizens who are already in serious support and partnership with the State government in achieving the set target of all round developments as enshrined in the New Direction Agenda of the present administration”
