President of Ogidi Development Union, Eniolorunda Ralph, has urged the Federal Government to include the Ogidi day cultural festival on its annual tourism calendar.
He said this during the hiking event at the Oroke Oda (an Ancient mountain), in Ogidi town as part of activities to mark this year’s Ogidi Day celebration, Kogi state on Friday.
Ogidi day is an annual festival which brings all the Sons and Daughters of Ogidi land all over the world and the neighbouring communities together.
Ralph said: “It is the only cultural festival celebrated in the month of June throughout Nigeria; It is our own new yam festival, which is likened to human regeneration.
“It’s a celebration of life.”
Similarly, supervisor for Mountaineering, Eniola Eniola, solicited the support of government towards ensuring that the festival is re-packaged to attract foreign participation.
He said this will also serve as a source of revenue generation for the country.
Eniola also commended Nike Okundaye, CEO of Nike Center for Arts and culture, for her support towards the face-lifting of Oroke Oda, a potential tourist attraction in the town for more than 10 years.
He said that Oroke Oda Mountain was the tower where Ogidi ancestor monitored and defeated the Nupe war lord in those days.
