The Peoples Voice for Development (PVD) has called on Kogi state government to proscribe the okada riders union in the central senatorial district of the state.

Coordinator of PVD, Aliyu Onujabe, made this call in a statement issued on Thursday.

The group stated that the proscription of the union becomes necessary because of the unpatriotic conduct of its leadership.

Onujabe noted that development can only thrive where citizens play their parts, lamenting that the refusal of the union leaders to allow its members pay legitimate levy to government, through designated revenue consultants, is an affront on the government and its agencies.

“We called on His Excellency to proscribe the so call okada union in Kogi central just like in Edo state where they are now enjoying peaceful revenue collection for the state.

“The West and East senatorial districts started paying revenue since three months ago, why is the union in central preventing their members from paying revenue? Are they now above government, or are they doing it to run down the administration of his Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello,” he queried.

According to the group, the general chairman okada riders in Kogi Central senatorial district allegedly instigated his members not to pay revenue since last year until government does “the needful”.

“This is not the spirit of a progressive union. The chairman and his members should allow us to enjoy the peace the Governor has laboured for in Kogi state,” he added.
