Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Tuesday called on the Federal Fire Service to deploy more of its personnel and fire fighting equipment to the state.
Gov. Bello made the call when he received the Controller General of the Service, Jaji Abdulganiyu in Lokoja.
Represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja, the Governor noted that the call became imperative as the state play critical role in the movement of goods and people from the North to the Southern part of the country.
According to him, seventy percent of transition of goods and passengers pass through Kogi State to different parts of the nation as their safety should not be jeopardized.
Governor Bello stated that prioritizing the deployment of officers and men of the Service as well as fire fighting equipment will enhance the safety of lives and property in the case of fire disaster.
He assured of his administration’s support to the Fire Service to enable them carry out their responsibility in the State.
Earlier, the Controller General of the Service, Jaji Abdulganiyu, represented by his Deputy Controller General, Mr. Teslim Agunloye said he was in the State following a letter of the Governor on the relocation of the State Command of the Service to Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
He lamented the attack on men of the Fire Service and its Equipment in Lokoja and called on Government to protect lives and property of the Agency.
Abdulganiyu promised to deploy modern fire fighting equipment to the State as soon as those that were ordered for arrive the country.
“We’re still expecting some equipment, when it arrives, Kogi will be given special treatment, He added.
The Controller General commended Gov. Bello for his passion to bring the Agency back to the State Capital, saying it is a show of passion for the safety of the people of the State.
Kogi State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (retired) also took the team from the Fire Service on Facility Tour of the Lokoja Mega Terminal.
