Following the pronouncements by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that governorship elections will hold in Kogi State on 3rd December 2011, political gladiators have been working round the clock to achieve their political goals.
One issue that have generated much controversy since the INEC announcement is the issue of fresh primaries. While the state chairman of People’s Democratic Party in Kogi State, Comrade Hassan Salawu, stated that the primaries that produced Alhaji Isah Jubrin Echocho will be upheld, other aspirants have been up in arms against his position. Those agitating for fresh primaries pointed to the Anambra case where Andy Uba, who had earlier won primaries and contested election before the court annulled the governorship elections, was unable to win at the re-scheduled primaries which produced Professor Charles Soludo.
After much deliberations at the highest echelon of the party, the state chapter has announced that fresh primaries will be conducted as scheduled by INEC. This means Echocho will have to return to the drawing board and re-strategise.

This is good news to other contenders who felt short-changed in the last primaries.
