“Flood Victims Had the Best of Up-keep While in Camps” – Govt

Following the receding of the floods in some areas in Kogi State and after dialogue with the State Government, some victims have left relief camps in Kabawa and few other camps across the State.

In a press statement issued to debunk media reports of victims abandoning their camps due to neglect, Abu Micheal, Chief Press Secretary to the Kogi State Deputy Governor, Arc Yomi Awoniyi, said after an audit test to ascertain the strength of their buildings and the need as suggested by the victims who are majorly farmers and fishermen, to go and continue with their businesses, they decided to leave their camps especially the Kabawa camp in Lokoja.

The press statement quoted Abu Micheal as saying the people left voluntarily but with the knowledge of the Government to take advantage of the remaining presence of water around their communities and the rich alluvial soil the state is blessed with to engage in dry season farming and fishing.

While insisting that those who left had their records documented for government further assistance, the Victims,the statement noted had the best of up keep while in camps and were well catered for since 23rd September when the camps opened.

Government the statement noted has distributed free high yielding maturing seedlings to farmers as well as fishing nets to assist those who left camps in their rehabilitation process .
