The International Rescue Committee has pledged support for Kogi State to effectively manage flood and take care of displaced people in the event of flood.
IRC New Country Programme Director, Mrs Nicky Smith, stated this at the weekend when she paid a courtesy call on the acting executive secretary of State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Alice Ogedegbe, in Lokoja.
In a statement by the Public Relations of SEMA, Fumilayo Ibikunle, Mrs Smith said IRC will work with the state government to ensure food security for flood victims, adding that they are worried about the nutrition of women and children affected by last year’s flood.
According to Smith, the committee is already working with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on fashioning out ways of ensuring disaster risk reduction in the state, commending NEMA for endorsing IRC to work with them and other agencies in disaster management.
She called on those living in flood prone areas in the state to heed government warning by relocating to higher grounds.
Responding, the acting executive secretary of SEMA, Alice Ogedegbe, commended IRC for coming to the aid of the state, soliciting for more assistance.
