Fighting Erosion Menace in Kogi: Gov Bello Shows Renewed Commitment

Gov. Yahaya Bello, Kogi State Governor, has no doubt taken bold steps to control the damage done by erosion in some part of the state.

 

The governor recently gave a bite to the  Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP , through a renewed partnership that will ensure that communities ravaged by erosion are controlled.

 

The Coordinator of NEWMAP in the state, Bar Jatto Ladi, it would be recalled recently began a statewide tour and assessment of erosion ravaged communities in the state, with a view to having an on the spot assessment of affected sites and carry out the control work.

 

The Coordinator has so far visited Ankpa, Ofu and Kabba LGA, delivering Gov Bello’s renewed commitment to stamp out erosion menace in the state.

 

Addressing the press after her visit to Ofu LGA, Bar Jatto, assured that the New Direction Administration in the state,  as ably led by Gov Bello, has declared a state of emergency on erosion ravaged communities, said his commitment to quickly protect affected communities, knows no bound.

 

The Coordinator who expressed confidence in the ability of the governor to meet the yearning and aspirations of people whose communities  have been badly  ravaged by erosion, urged for patience from the people, disclosing that there years of living in fear of losing lives, farmlands and properties owing to government lips service is long gone.

 

Bar Jatto commended the governor for his support to the project, said her project is poised to meet the mandate of the world Bank and that of the state government, in fighting the scourge of erosion menace.

 

According to the project Coordinator, the sensitization mission to Kabba Bunu, Ankpa and Ofu  local government is to drum the importance of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management project and why it’s important for the communities to be fully involve in the project.

She added that Gov Bello is determined to bring an end to erosion  menace in the State, hence his partnership with the World Bank.

 

In her words, ” most project failed in the past because benefitting communities were not carried along,  but in Newmap the communities  Will always participate and allowed to make inputs ”  she disclosed.
