Federal University Lokoja Set to Commence Post-Graduate Studies

The Vice Chancellor (VC) Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Prof. Angela Freeman Miri, on Monday says the university has concluded plans for the commencement of School of Post-Graduate Studies in the institution.
The VC disclosed this at a press briefing in Lokoja as part of activities to mark the 2nd Convocation Ceremony of the University, scheduled to hold on Nov. 4. at the school permanent site along Lokoja-Okene road at Felele.
Miri told journalists that the FUL would commence Post-Graduate Programmes (PGP) to be offered in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science, beginning from 2018/2019 Academic session.
She added that the establishment of the post graduate school in the institution remained one of the cardinal focus for a world class university, saying a board and committee had been inaugurated for the purpose.
“I am glad to inform you that upon graduation of the second set of graduands, and sequel to the approval given by the Senate and subsequent appointment of Dean of the School of PGS to effect its smooth take off.
“We are building a university for the future and as such, the school of PGS would take off in earnest as soon as the National University Commission (NUC) grant the approval.
“We are making the institution and its environs a community of scholars who would help prospective candidates obtain Higher Degrees,” she said.
The VC also said that the NUC has accredited all the established programmes in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, saying “the Faculty of Science is awaiting full accreditation in the second quarter of 2018.
“We are on the verge of meeting up with all the requirements that would qualify the university for full accreditation of all the Science programmes”.
Miri also reiterated the desire of the university management to move to the school permanent site to commence operations as soon as possible in order to make a meaningful impact and advancement.
She noted that the 2017 convocation ceremony would be taking place at the FUL permanent site along Lokoja-Okene road at Felele, stressing that the event would obviously mark the gradual commencement of operations at the site.
The VC also told journalists the plans by the university to begin Consultancy services in information and communication technology (ICT) to be domiciled in ICT Directorate, that would offer Certificate programmes in various computer training.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that activities lined up for the 2nd convocation ceremony includes: Tree Planting, Lecture; titled “Resources and Prospects of Development in Nigerian Universities”, to be delivered by Emeritus Prof. Nimi Briggs, the Pro-Chancellor & Chairman Governing Council of FUL.
A total of 288 Graduates are expected to be conferred with First Degree award in various disciplines by the Chancellor, HRH, Dr Muhammadu Abali, the Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe State Council of Chiefs.
