February 14th every year has continue to get popularity despite religious antagonism as a day set aside to celebrate love and care; it is popularly known as St Valentine Day (Val day or Lovers Day).

A Political Activist, Oladipo Makakese Bayode has berated Nigerians for their pretense, claiming Nigerians are not good lovers but haters and called on Nigerians to stop being hypocritical about the concept of love. Love he said, must be differentiated from emotion attachment or sexual relationship.

In his explanation he said a country where your neighbors wish you dead, yet talk about love!. Corruption is the greatest killer of any development society. A killer he said cannot be a true lover.

All religious groups in Nigeria claim they serve same God yet we kill each other in Nigeria. Politicians contest elections and never exhibited sportsmanship, besides going for all stages of litigation, never congratulated fellow contestants and if they do, wished they fail in the discharge of the duties of office or the winner at the other end will to extend hands of fellowship to the loser. The struggle for positions causes strive to the point of death (Assassination and Murder), is this love? If yes, it is a different on from what the love  St. Valentine stood for.

“Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity”. ~Henry Van Dyke.

“If this is true, we must all agreed we have failed and have exhibited so much love causing us set back and disunity as a country and we must resolve to start practicing genuine love. This is the only way out of the over heated life style”, Bayode said.
