An Overview of the recent trip to the 74th UN General Assembly Meeting by APC National Woman Leader, Hajiya Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma.
Since her assumption of duty as the ruling party’s National Woman Leader, Hajiya Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma’s desire to impact genuine development, particularly for the women folk, in her immediate environment, Nigeria, by keying into women programs and activities that will transform ordinary women in Nigeria and across the globe knows no bounds.
This new innovation that heralded her new status in the comity of party leadership made her efforts to refocus the attention towards Nigerian women, not only in politics, but social services, self development, economic emancipation that will detach them from social stratification.
The National Woman Leader made concerted efforts by creating an enabling environment that will guarantee women participation in all the social investment programs of the government, all geared towards bridging the gap of underdevelopment, women inclusion and self reliance.
Her focus in woman’s leadership on assumption of duty at the party hierarchy was not only to streamline the structural imbalance of women at party level, but explore a synergy between critical stakeholders in the women affairs in Nigeria, to initiate and sustain women centred programs, to bring to bare women development.
Her passion for women, children and youth development emboldened her efforts at keying into the vulnerable programs in Nigeria society, having visited crises prone and war ravaged areas of the North-East, in company of Nigerian First Lady, to commiserate and donate items to the IDP camps, as well as provided empowerment to the victims, including the commissioning of projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the downtrodden in the society.
The significance of her presence in this year’s 74th United Nations General Assembly meetings, in company of some critical stakeholders in women affairs, lend credence to her desire not to only place women at vantage position in the political development of Nigeria, but social upliftment and economic rejuvenation.
Since women and children are the most vulnerable groups in our society today, the idea of bringing to the world fora issues like women inclusion, climate change, gender equality, Sustainable Development Goals and other developmental programs that will improve the living standards of womenfolk, was extensively discussed and solution proffered at the global fora.
The APC National Woman Leader, not done with efforts at placing women at the right pedestal to men, in line with the agreed template and policies of governance in Nigeria, also tend to achieve near similar feat in the international assemblage, to gradually address policies that place the issue at the front burner, in synergy and consistent with the policy of Nigeria government.
The major breakthrough in women advancement proffered by the Woman Leader in company of some women stakeholders, is the participatory ability and recommendations made at the venue,that will serve as a working template to decisions of the World Assembly, geared towards women improvement.
On the whole, the National Woman Leader was able to achieve the entire world’s leaders attention, to persistent women concerns for a social and uninterrupted global policies and programs, that will end the gender imbalance.
