In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. – George Orwell.
Having monitored and studied some commentaries and remarks in respect of the upcoming 2019 Kabba/Bunu Constituency race, the political intrigues, machinations and stratagem deployed by some individuals in Kogi State have become very worrisome and disheartening.
Most of these remarks are voiced as blatant demonstration of utter ethnic sentiments. Aspirants who are walking in this inglorious path of the shadow of death should be disqualified and prevented from contesting the forthcoming Assembly election in the state because it is now evident that such rogue politicians cannot and should not be trusted with power.
As for Unity Party Of Nigeria (UPN), the political party that I belong to and of which I will be contesting as a member of the State Assembly during the 2019 elections, our clear ideology is centred on the solid transformation of the political system in a bid to bringing about positive development, good leadership, unity, limitless opportunities and better representation of the people we are to serve.
Our people now need to start electing leaders who have clear vision, better master plan and achievable programmes while dishonourable individuals, who are interested in causing divides among the people of our great constituency through their political chicaneries and gamesmanship, should be voted out or disqualified at the polls because their ideas can never be mobilized for development and neither would it translate into anything meaningful or beneficial to the people.
Since modern day politics is about debate and manifesto, what the electorates should be asking for at this critical point in time is the manifesto of all the aspirants who must also be ready to partake in joint public debates. Subscription to clanish sentiments should be avoided because of its capability of breeding violence if not well managed owing to the fragile state of Kogi State in general, and Kabba/Bunu constituency, in particular — both of which are microcosm of the macro society called Nigeria.
Previous lies and deceit by former and incumbent office holders have refused to add any value to us as a people. It has affected us negatively and has divided us more than what we bargained for. The focus of the 2019 election should be geared towards development and poverty eradication. Any agenda that is not packaged towards moving us forward should be jettisoned and shunned by all, especially the youths whose future were mortgaged by these selfish political leaders in the past.
We should never forget that most of our monuments and associations have been destroyed by the actions of former and present leaders who think less of the people who voted them in. As a people, we must now be ready to ensure the dethronement of mediocrity by meritocracy since we are now all aware that those promoting the clanish sentiments are sowing seeds of discord instead of building peace, unity, progress and evelopment.
The fact that we still have to be dwelling on whether you are of Paul or Apollos at this particular point in time is very worrisome. More concerning is the fact that there is high proliferation of small arms and light weapons are now in circulation. We must collectively rise up now to resist every attempted attempt to take us back to Egypt, especially now that the 2019 presented us with an opportunity to vote out bad leaders who are responsible for our present woes.
Importantly, we must endeavour to ensure that the sacrifices of our heroes past such as Sir James Oloruntoba and many others, who made lot of contributions for the development of Kabba, don’t end up in vain.
As a student of history, I have come to realise that disorder is a political instrument but in the case of 2019, it is a different ball game and that is more reason I am appealing to everyone to shun every form of violence which the present government is preaching as a way of distracting us from focusing on and noticing their woes in governance.
Without been immodest and to call a spade a spade and not an agricultural instrument, the present administration is the worst in the history of Kogi State. The poverty rate is fast on the increase on a daily basis; insecurity is on the high side and salaries of workers are yet to be paid despite several releases of funds. That is not only wicked but satanic.
Let us not be discouraged. Instead, we should be determined and dogged in taking power, through the ballot, from the administrators that lack vision.
As for me and my numerous supporters, we have chosen peace over war, with love to all and malice to none, we say capital NO to the drumbeat of war.
It is time to unite and build our Jerusalem that lies in ruin. Anything short of peace, progress and development of Kabba/Bunu Constituency, count me, my party and our numerous members out of it. This is not to say that we are afraid of war but because we understand that no development can take place with war.
With Comrade Oluwaloseyi Solomon Babaeko as your representative at the Kogi State House of Assembly, Kabba/Bunu Constituency shall be great again.
Vote Sheyi Babaeko, the candid candidate, as a member of the Kogi State House of Assembly to represent Kabba/Bunu Constituency.
God bless Kabba/Bunu Constituency!
God Bless Kogi State!!
God Bless Nigeria!!!
