The winners of Titilayo Fanwo’s essay competition have been awarded a total of N670,000 in scholarship funding by the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Kogi State Governor, Kingsley Fanwo.
The six students emerged from a two-category essay competition for tertiary and secondary school students.
Announcing the award at a colourful ceremony in Mopa on Monday, Fanwo stated that the scholarship was aimed at promoting academic excellence among students from Mopamuro local government area of Kogi state.
For the Tertiary Institutions Category, Adegboyega Tosin came first and went home with #200,000; Ogbondeminu Tosin came second and went home with #150,000 while Adetayo Tolulope came third and was handed #100,000.
In the secondary school category, Siseku Esther Ayomide came first and went home with #100,000; Olumuyiwa Adeoluwa Eyiwumi came second and got #70,000 while Ernest Christianah Roseline came third and won #50,000.
Reacting to the development, the President of the Mopamuro Students Union, Kogi State Polytechnic Chapter, Mayowa Ernest described the scholarship as a great boost to promote academic excellence among the youth.
According to him, the gesture will spur academic competition among Mopamuro students.
“This has shown that Titilayo Fanwo Empowerment Foundation is helping to build the future of our youths. Competitions like this will help to reward those who work hard”, he said.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo told newsmen in Lokoja that he will continue to use the foundation to boost academic excellence.
“Our industry is education and we have no choice than to promote academic competition among our youth.
“It is unfortunate that many youth have taken to drugs in our society. We must constantly remind them that nothing paves way for a prosperous future like education. I was lucky to be brought up by teachers who were knowledge generators.It is my turn to give back to the society.
“I and my siblings have been very committed to this. We applaud all the students who took part in the highly competitive Essay Competition. We hope to make it an annual event and we want to see more hardworking students win the scholarship.
“I am serving in a Government that has prioritized education. This is my own little way of supporting my boss, Governor Yahaya Bello.
“In the coming years, we will do more and open more opportunities for hardworking students to excel”.
