Erosion Control: Kogi Govt Kick Starts Civil Works in Agassa

Kogi State Government has called the people Agassa in Okene local government to support Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) civil works in the area.

The state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello made the call at the flag-off of the civil works in Agassa on Saturday.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Ohere, the governor announced the state government has paid compensation to the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in Agassa in preparation for the commencement of Civil Works.

He charged the people of Agassa to own the project and give the Civil Works contractor all the support that would guarantee timely implementation of the project.

He reminded the people that the state government has paid the 900million naira as counterpart fund to reduce the menace of erosion across Kogi State.

He further mentioned that government has awarded and mobilized a consultant for the engineering design of 8 gully sites in the state.

The Project Coordinator, Kogi NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, while commending Governor Bello for his administration’s unfettered support for the success of the project, assured the people of Agassa that in addition to improving the livelihoods of the people of Agassa, the project outcome would be the beautification of the entire area, thereby adding value to the entire community.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs. Hannah Odiyo, pleaded with the people of Agassa to, as a matter of necessity, protect every aspect of the project.

Other dignitaries in attendance were the Hon. Commissioner for Works, the Administrators of Okene, Ajaokuta and Adavi LGAs.
