A socio-political organization, Kogi Integrity Group, has described Hon. James Faleke and Senator Dino Melaye as anti-progressive elements who are working tirelessly to destroy All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group made this known in a press statement issued in Lokoja on Monday.
President, Kogi Integrity Group, Barrister Zacchaeus Dare Michael called on Faleke, Melaye and other asking Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to resign over his purported double voters registration to show sincerity by calling on all Federal lawmakers with corruption cases to resign their positions.
“We called on Senator Dino Melaye, Hon. James Faleke and others who are calling for the resignation of the governor to first of all compel the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and many other senators that have corruption cases hanging on their neck in the court to first resign and the governor will follow their foot step.
“Calling for Gov. Bello resignation has no basis and this goes to further to clear the doubt of the people of Kogi state that James Faleke and Dino Melaye are anti-progressives as they are working tirelessly to bring down the APC and then defect to another party.
“Progressive minded APC members are not unaware of the consistent show of shame by Bukola Saraki and Dino Melaye, how they dine and wine with the opposition especially their recent courtesy visit to Uche Secondus to felicitate with him on his victory as the newly elected chairman of the PDP.
“We are also aware that James Faleke is the one that has been sponsoring and funding APDA party, one of the new opposition parties in Kogi, and that is why the duo are fighting dirty to destroy the APC that gave them the platform to operate. We are fully conversant with all their antics and gimmicks, but we are ready to face them head on,” he said.
He said the allegation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that Gov. Yahaya Bello engaged in double registration is abuse of human right and show of gross incompetence on the part of the commission.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the name implies is an independent institution saddled with the constitutional responsibility to handle all election related matters in Nigeria, which is expected to be apolitical, neutral and non partisan. However, it is so unfortunate that some selfish individuals in the organisation are collaborating with some self-centered politicians to compromise the rules and ethics of the commission to the detriment of the good people of Nigeria, especially in Kogi State.
“As a group, we see this as an abuse of human right and gross incompetence on the part of INEC as a Commission. We wonder how the system they used to siphoned several billions of naira from our treasury was not able to detect and reject double registration instantly.
“Shouldn’t the INEC registration device be an automated system that can detect and identify any attempt of double registration and automatically reject it? This shows that INEC has failed in her constitutional responsibility and trying to use our Governor as a cover up and their dismissed staff as scape goats.
“INEC allegation against our governor is a gross violation of his fundamental human right abuse and the issue of fundamental right abuse can be taken up by anybody or group not necessarily the victim. The good people of Kogi are fully standing with His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on this issue.
“Those who are calling for Gov. Bello’s resignation are ignorant of the law because their calls do not fall within the confine of any existing law.
“Section 36 (5) of the Nigerian constitution presume the governor is innocent until it is otherwise proven, and Section 308 makes it very clear that no criminal allegation can be charged against him in any court of law. However, the governor is fully prepared to prove his innocence on the allegation of this double registration,” he added.
