Having followed the hully bully that envelopes in the last few months in the recall process and the political developments in Kogi state, I am in joy that the exercise went down peacefully and the will of God and the people prevails. In a democracy we must learn to respect the people to whom we owe everything. We believe that the voice of the people is that of God. The people of Kogi west have spoken and the result is clear to the blind and audible enough to the deaf.
To be candid, I don’t fancy Dino Melaye, I am not his supporter because I am not from his constituency, but I think the anarchy that this recall would have brought to our nascent democracy would have cause more harm than good should the recall succeeds. This bold statement from the people does not posit acceptance or rejection, that’s not the main point, the lesson here is that the people have shown political literacy good enough for this democracy. If Dino is the best or worst legislature, it should not take an invisible hands to uplift or bring him down. The people should do that because the power lies in them.
I have written a lot about Gov Bello and Dino and my position always remain that Kogi is in a situation I could simply call “a double tragedy”. Come to think of it, the zeal of government on Dino recall, if half of that is deployed to development, Kogi would be better for it. We are showing the people how drunk we are with power, God will judge and ask questions for the positions we held and how we use that to better the life of the people. This is my watch word for all.
Last two weeks I had the opportunity to go back home, I saw no hand of govt in developing in the state, I saw dilapidating infrastructure everywhere, I saw the roundabouts that were demolished two years on yet could not be rebuild, I spoke to people (salary earners) and their tears flow, I saw Kogi in real danger. Government should wake up from petty issues and rise to the challenges of developing the state; let us stop lying to each other, Kogi is backward and government has no excuse anymore.
To His Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello, Sir, under your watch Kogi should be better, you have to rise up against all odds to do that, if not, the so call stereotype about power shift from Igala to other tribe, old to young etc would have been defeated. Sir, the voice of the people is not speaking well of your administration but your lieutenants would never tell you this. Your government is failing and you must not allow this to happen even if not for your reelection bid, history will have it that you did well that’s better for any leader.
On Dino’s recall, the hand of your government seems to be seen glaringly and that may be the reason for this poor outing. To be sincere to you, your political dynasty is shaking and tearing apart. Do not turn back on the people, you owe them everything especially that your position today is still a mirage to all. If you leave this government without making Kogi better, you have betrayed God. This is my sincere opinion.
To Distinguish Senator Dino Melaye, congratulations sir, my opinion is that you must have self assessment and see if your actions, statements and dealings befits your status. A man must learn to be wiser daily as a leader. The people are not proud of you. Do not use the result of this recall as an acceptance. Like I said before, the coalition between you and Gov Bello is a loose loose situation for us. If we have two vibrant youths or more who can put heads together, the state would be better for it. I wish you quick recovery. As you go back to the chamber, please be the Son we should all be proud of. Deploy your energy to fight for projects for the state and not otherwise.
To the good people of Kogi state. I urge you all to learn from Dino recall, let this show us that power belongs to us. Come 2019-2020 use this power wisely, don’t sell your conscience, your vote, your future, your honour and your good name to greedy politicians. Sack non performing politicians. Vote wisely and don’t fight.
