…I am too Refined to Breed Thugs.

The senatorial candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Kogi Central senatorial district, Barr. Natasha Akpoti has said she too refined to breed thugs in Kogi Central which she has always stood and defended.

Addressing newsmen in a conference organized by Kaduna Front for Natasha Akpoti Victory and Ebira Peoples Association, Zaria chapter, Akpoti described the allegations making the round on social media as false, mischief and misleading, saying she it is not possible for her to resort to thuggery as a means of promoting the people oriented cause she is championing.

She blamed the renewed political violence and high level of poverty in her senatorial district on desperate politicians and misrepresentation, adding that there is still high hope of building a new Kogi Central.

She posited that, poverty is the root cause of thuggery and other crimes in her district and other parts of Nigeria which she said Ajaokuta is capable of solving.

“Because of the high level of poverty in Ebiraland, human life has become so cheap that people will be ready to kill their fellow human beings for ten thousand naira, but am assuring you that once Ajaokuta starts working our youths will be engaged and too busy to be used as instruments of destruction and political violence.

“I have heard how politics is dirty, and because of this, the good people shy away from delving into it but if all of us run away from governance, the good people will always be ruled by the bad people in the society, this is the reason I answered the clarion call of my people”, she said.

While decrying the level of attacks that have been launching on her supporters, Akpoti said she has done everything possible including petitioning the former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the action she said went on abated untill one of her supporters was killed on Saturday.

According to her, courage is the act of standing with your people in terms of danger, the reason she said she moved to Ihima to take the body of her late supporter, Enesi Ojo to Kogi Police Headquarters and FMC for pathology test.

Commenting on the lost glory of Ebiraland, the SDP senatorial candidate said Ebira people were once known as the best producer of local fabric, and peaceful set of people, adding that the current happenings are  alien to Ebira nation.

“I understand the pain of a mother seeing her child becoming a thug because of lack of opportunities, I wouldn’t betray your promise
“Dear youth, this is your chance, if you think you are going to collect five thousand naira on the day of election and sell your vote, know that you are selling your mother’s sweat to see you through school and another suffering for four years.

“The future we dream is depending on all of us, no one will come from elsewhere to do it for us, let’s stand together and work to rewrite our history.”, she said.

She added that, it has become necessary to position Ebiraland for economic prosperity, citing Ajaokuta as a viable means to project Kogi Central, Kogi State and Nigeria for economics prosperity.

She disclosed that it took her four years to lead Ajaokuta steel advocacy before the Federal government could remove Ajaokuta Steel company from companies that can be concessioned and the recent approval of one billion dollar for the completion of Ajaokuta steel company.

“Ajaokuta has suffered for many years because it has nobody to fight for it, this is one of the reasons I’ve not given up.

“When I get to the Senate, I will focus 70 percent of my time to on legislative reforms that will serve as guidelines to protect the operation Ajaokuta and other steel sectors in Nigeria”, she said.

She explained that, Kogi Central as the host community will be captured and protected in the social justice legislative reform she will drive for in the senate.

“Whatever is due to us as a people who have given the land for forty years will be protected because if this is not done, a foreigner will take over the company.

“Once Ajaokuta starts working, many other companies will be lying up for production. There will be oxygen plant, batteries will be produced, medical equipment, office equipment among others. The downstream sector contains so much opportunities to eradicate poverty and create economic prosperity.

Speaking on behalf of the associations, the Odeyani of Ebira, Kaduna Alh. Alh. Sadiqu Obari, Chairman Ebira Peoples Association Zaria, Dr. Muraina declared their support for Natasha’s candidacy, promising to mobilise Ebira people down home for voting.

In recognition of her service to her fatherland, awards of excellence service to Ebiraland was given to her by the associations.
