The lingering rumours of the defection of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to another party may have been put to rest as the state chapter of the Accord Party has described the rumours as a figment of imagination of some people.
The Chairman of Accord Party in Kogi State, Alhaji Alhassan Adakeke, on Friday in Lokoja stated that neither Governor Bello nor any of his agents has contacted the party for membership.
Adakeke, however said the governor is welcomed with glamour as the doors of the party is widely open to accommodate all Nigerians.
Adakeke explained that when Accord Party heard of the good news of the governor’s plan to defect to its fold, the party was not surprised as “God can also help the party to be a ruling party in Kogi, just as He has helped Bello to be a governor,” he said.
The party leader said thousands of people have been trooping into the party including prominent politicians from other political parties.
According to him, some of these politicians planning to join Accord Party want to contest governorship election on its platform.
Alhaji Adakeke, explained further that some politicians consider Accord Party as a convergent point where they will meet to usher in the long desired change that will transform Kogi to an enviable state.
He assured the people that the party is accommodating and has established structures down to unit levels.
