The Kogi East senatorial candidate on the platform of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), Comrade Amade Godwin Edime has commiserated with the Kogi State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor James Iorliam Apam over the sudden deaths of members of staff of the commission in the state.

Comrade Edime who went on the condolence visit to the REC’s office in Lokoja today, Monday said he received the news of the untimely deaths of the members of the Commission with inexplicable shock and couldn’t imagine how the families and the Commission were coping in the aftermath of such a traumatic event.

In a condolence letter personally signed and presented to the REC in Lokoja, Comrade Edime stated: “I write with deep solidarity to convey my condolences to the Resident Electoral Commissioner and other members of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state over the deaths of some of your staff who died in ghastly motor accident.”

Comrade Edime took time out to sign the condolence register at the premises of the commission in Lokoja referring to the terrible incident as a National Tragedy. “I regard this to be a National Tragedy,” he averred.

He therefore prayed God to grant the REC and the entire INEC staff the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable losses.

He said: “Once more, I pray to God Almighty that you bear these irreparable losses with fortitude.”

Responding, Professor Apam expressed his appreciation to Comrade Edime for being thoughtful of the painful incident and for also stopping by to share in the grief of the commission, noting that it hadn’t been an easy moment for the commission in Kogi State at all.

The REC who couldn’t hide how surprised he was about the visit stated that it was very unusual for politicians to act in the manner that Comrade Edime acted, which, according to him, “was the first of its kind.”

It can be recalled that some staff of the commission recently lost their lives in a fatal auto crash along Lokoja-Ajaokuta road while returning from a colleague’s wedding.
