Tragedy occurred yesterday in Lokoja, Kogi State capital when a truck belonging to the Dangote Group rammed into an oncoming motorcycle, killing the two passengers.

The victims, Caleb Idakwo and Prosper Ojodale (student of Kogi State Polytechnic), until their death, were active members of the United Evangelical Church (English section), Lokoja.

The pastor of the church Samson Akor informed that the victims met their death while returning from Koton Karfe where they went to drop agricultural imputes for their farm. He said they were driving on their rightful lane, of the dual carriage Lokoja-Abuja Highway, only to be confronted with the oncoming truck before the head on collision.

According to him, they were beneficiaries of the cluster farm project, adding that they had just taken delivery of their farm imputes of fertilizer, rice seedling, pumping machines and accessories from the Kogi State Agricultural Development Project (ADP) along Felele Road.

“They took the imputes to the palace of Ohimege of KotonKarfe for safe keeping as it is the closest location to their farmland. On their way back at about 9pm, the truck rammed into them.”

He informed that some police officers were on hand to offer assistance, as they rushed them to about five hospitals, including the Federal Medical Center and the State Specialist Hospital, but help could not come their way as the doctors were reported to be on strike.

Before they could arrive at Sky Clinic on Ganaja Road, which is a private clinic, Prosper Ojodale had given up the ghost. Caleb also gave up the ghost as he was being moved from Sky Clinic on referral. Their corpses were deposited at the Specialist Hospital.

Pastor Akor, who indicated that the trailer has been impounded under the police custody, admonished Christians to always be prepared as death can come at any moment.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah confirmed the incidence when the Guardian enquired.
