Ahead of local government elections scheduled for October 18, Alhaji Idris Abdulrahman Sofada has emerged as the chairmanship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lokoja LGA.
Sofada emerged through consensus in an exercise held at Adankolo Primary School in Lokoja on Saturday.
The exercise, which involved 7 aspirants, was presided over by the deputy state chairman of the SDP, Comrade Muhammed Sanni Yusuf.
Speaking, Yusuf said the quest of SDP to produce a consensus candidate during the primaries followed the necessary steps required for affirmation.
In his acceptance speech, Sofada commended the delegates, state leaders as well as party faithful for their support.
He said the peaceful conduct of the primaries marked the beginning of the liberation of the local government from “oppressive forces”.
Sofada, who described his candidacy as “divine and a mission to rescue Lokoja LGA”, said his experience as a retired civil servant, prepared him for the task.
“I do not take this privilege and honour for granted. I am further inspired that my emergence is a product of wide consultations and deliberations within our party in line with expressed confidence and trust for me to lead the party.
“My election as the party’s flagbearer will usher purposeful and development-driven administration in Lokoja LGA if elected,” he noted.
Sofada solicited the support of all to achieve the desired success and urged them to remain united in the interest of the party.
